Vinted phone verification when you don’t have a Hungarian SIM
You can open a vinted.hu account with nothing but an e-mail address. What stops buyers abroad is the step after that: Vinted verifies accounts with a code sent to a phone, one number per account, entered with the + country code — and it asks for it at the latest when it sees “unusual activity”, which is exactly what a first login from another country with a foreign card looks like.
Vinted does not publish which countries’ numbers it accepts. Buyers on other Vinted sites report being asked for a number from the site’s own country; our customers report the same on vinted.hu. So this page does three things: tells you to try your own number first, names the Hungarian-number services that work and the ones that do not, with prices checked on 10 September 2026, and says plainly what can still go wrong.
None of this is endorsed by Vinted, and none of it is something we can do for you — the account must be yours. If you get stuck, a person will help.
Step 0: try your own number
Enter it in international format — a plus sign, the country code, then the number without its leading zero and without spaces. Vinted’s help page lists only three reasons a number fails:
- 1.It is already on another account. Usually an old, forgotten one. Delete it, or write to Vinted support with the number in international format.
- 2.Typos or too many attempts. The field locks for two hours. Wait, then type slowly.
- 3.Connectivity. Codes arrive by SMS; if you are on Wi-Fi with no mobile signal, the code is not coming.
If the code arrives and the account works, you are done — stop reading and go to the ordering guide. If Vinted says the number cannot be used, or the code never comes, carry on.
Rent a Hungarian number: SMSPVA
The only aggregator that publicly lists a Hungarian number you can rent for weeks, labelled as a physical Yettel SIM rather than a VoIP line. Renting matters because Vinted can ask for a new code on any later login.

How to do it, step by step

Create an account and top it up
SMSPVA takes crypto first; a bank card only buys Bitcoin through a partner with a $35 minimum; no PayPal. Put in only what the rental costs — these services hold prepaid balances, and SMS-Activate’s closure showed what happens to a balance when one folds.

Rent, not buy: Hungary → Vinted → a duration
Choose the rental section, Hungary as the country and Vinted as the service. A week is $3.85 per week; a month is better value and covers the period when Vinted is most likely to re-check a new account.

Enter the number on Vinted with +36
Vinted wants the international format: + then the country code, no spaces, no leading zero. The code appears in your provider dashboard, usually within a minute or two. Vinted locks the field for two hours after too many failed attempts, so type carefully.

Keep the number for as long as you use Vinted
Vinted sends a new code whenever it sees unusual activity — a new device, a new country, a large order. Set a reminder to extend the rental before it lapses, and if you also sell, withdraw your balance promptly. A lost number can lock an account with money in it.
The honest downsides
- • Funding is awkward for a one-time buyer: the card route is a $35 minimum crypto purchase for a $4 rental.
- • The rental page does not say whether the number could take a voice call. Our vinted.hu customers have always received the code by SMS, so this has not mattered so far.
- • A small Trustpilot base (25 reviews) is thin evidence either way.
A one-off code: SMSPool
The most consumer-friendly of the aggregators: bank card, Apple Pay and Google Pay, iOS and Android apps, unspent balance refundable within 14 days. Hungary is in its country list and Vinted in its service list — but only as a one-off code, with no Hungarian rental.

Use it if you accept that one code is all you get:
- • One code only: if Vinted asks again in a month, the number is gone and you start over.
- • Users reported in May–June 2026 that Vinted codes stopped arriving on its disposable numbers.
- • Its own guide claims Vinted “blocks VoIP numbers” — a vendor claim, not a Vinted statement.
A real Hungarian SIM
The cheapest and most dependable number there is — if you are physically in Hungary. Prepaid SIMs must be registered in your own name, in a shop, with a passport; nobody ships a registered Hungarian SIM abroad, and Shipify cannot register one for you.

- • Yettel: foreigners cannot buy a prepaid SIM online or from resellers, only in a shop with ID. Telekom and One: the mandatory data check for non-residents is in person only.
- • Hungarian law requires an annual identity re-check on prepaid SIMs, and for foreign documents it is in person — so a non-resident’s SIM lapses after roughly a year unless you come back.
- • Outside the EU the SIM roams on your home network’s terms; receiving SMS may cost money.
What we do not recommend, and why
Most guides on this topic list every service that has a Hungary page. We checked what each one actually delivers.
5SIM
Lists Vinted for Hungary at about $0.51, but only on pools it calls “virtual”, and its own published delivery statistics for those pools are 13–23% — most codes never arrive.
- • A 13–23% delivery rate, by its own numbers, is a coin toss you lose four times out of five.
Free public number sites
Pages that show a shared Hungarian number and everyone’s incoming messages. Vinted allows one account per number, so these numbers are almost always “already in use” — and anyone reading the page sees your code.
- • Shared inbox, recycled numbers, and no way to receive a later code privately.
Virtual-number apps (Sonetel, Zadarma, MoreMins, Telnum…)
Proper VoIP providers either sell no SMS on Hungarian numbers at all (Sonetel says so outright) or cannot guarantee that verification codes arrive. The “Hungary eSIM with a number” products sold online carry a French +33 number.
- • Exactly the number type the SMS vendors claim Vinted filters, and no evidence that Vinted codes arrive.
And SMS-Activate, still the most-searched name in the category, shut down on 29 December 2025; balances under $30 could not be withdrawn. Any guide that links to it is stale.

The risks, in plain words
Third party, not endorsed by Vinted
Vinted’s terms require one account per person with accurate, up-to-date details, and Vinted may ask you to verify the number at registration or any time later. A rented number is a grey area; a second account is an explicit breach. Keep it to one account, yours.
Recycled numbers
Every aggregator recycles numbers. Because Vinted allows one account per number, a number that someone used on Vinted last year comes back as “already in use”. Rental pools are cleaner than one-off pools; free public numbers are the dirtiest of all.
A call instead of an SMS
Some users reported in May–June 2026 that Vinted phoned new accounts instead of texting. Our vinted.hu customers have always received the code by SMS. An SMS-only number could not take a call, so if Vinted ever offers you one, write to us before you rent another number.
Your deposit
These services are prepaid and crypto-heavy. Deposit the price of one rental, not a balance you would miss.
If you lose the number anyway
Vinted’s help page on changing a phone number describes a recovery route for members who no longer have access to the old number: send the new number together with a screenshot of a bank statement or a photo of the card used on Vinted (name, last four digits, expiry) and your username and the date, written by hand. It explicitly asks you not to send ID documents.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Hungarian phone number to register on vinted.hu? +
Not to create the account: Vinted’s Hungarian help page lists four sign-up methods — e-mail, Google, Facebook and Apple — and only e-mail verification is mandatory. The phone number is Vinted’s two-step-verification channel, and it asks for a code when it sees unusual activity, which a first login from abroad with a foreign card tends to trigger. So the number is not needed to register, but in practice it is needed to use the account.
Can I verify vinted.hu with a foreign phone number? +
Vinted does not publish a country rule. Its help page only says that one number can be used on one account and that the number must be entered with the + country code. Buyers on other Vinted sites report being asked for a number from the site’s own country, and our customers report the same on vinted.hu. Try your own number first, in the correct format; only rent a Hungarian one if Vinted refuses it.
Is using a rented number allowed by Vinted? +
Vinted’s terms neither allow nor forbid it. What they do say is one account per person, accurate personal details, and that Vinted may verify the number at any time. Use the number for your own single account, keep it active, and you are in the same position as someone with a second SIM. Do not use it to open a second account — that is an explicit breach.
What if Vinted asks for the code again in a month? +
It will, sooner or later — a new phone, a new country, a large purchase. That is why a rental beats a one-off code. Extend the rental before it lapses (providers usually allow an extension within a few days of expiry), and if the number is gone, use Vinted’s recovery route with a bank-statement screenshot rather than trying a fresh number.
Vinted says the number is already in use. What now? +
With your own number, it usually means an old, forgotten account is tied to it: delete that account or contact Vinted support with the number in international format. With a rented number it means the pool recycled a number someone used on Vinted before — release it and take another.
Can Shipify receive the SMS for me, or lend me a number? +
Not for your account. The account has to be yours — one person, one account, one number — and a number tied to us would be tied to us, not to you. The delivery address is different: put our warehouse number, +36 20 419 0170, in its phone field, and if a confirmation code arrives there, e-mail or WhatsApp us and we will pass it on. For the account itself we walk you through the options above, tell you honestly if Vinted is refusing everything, and take care of everything after the purchase.
What happened to SMS-Activate? +
SMS-Activate, the best-known name in this category, shut down on 29 December 2025; balances under $30 could not be withdrawn. Guides that still link to it are out of date. Its declared successor’s Hungarian pages were not publicly viewable when we checked on 10 September 2026, so we do not list it.
